Degree Days
Weather Data for Energy Saving
We are committed to preserving the privacy of all Degree Days.net visitors and customers, and we manage Degree Days.net and its API service in a way that complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (the GDPR). Please read the information below to understand how we use and protect the data you provide to us.
Our exposure to your personal data (as defined by the GDPR) is limited to the following:
By visiting our website or requesting data from our API you will unavoidably be sharing your IP address with us (just by nature of how the web works). Like most websites and APIs, we keep logs of requests made to our system including the IP addresses that they came from. We have a legitimate interest in logging this information to ensure smooth running of our service and to investigate and counter any attempts to compromise our system or reduce its ability to deliver as usual (e.g. through a denial of service attack). We will keep any logs of your IP address secure, and we will delete them after 28 days.
If you purchase access to Degree Days.net Pro or the Degree Days.net API, you will need to share your basic customer data (name, company name, address, email) with FastSpring, our online reseller for Degree Days.net products. FastSpring, who are GDPR compliant themselves, have a legal obligation to collect and store this basic customer data. They will also share this basic customer data with us, and we will use it to provide you with the service you paid for. We may keep a copy of this basic customer data in our own secure database, as we have a legitimate interest in a) ensuring that we can provide you with the service you paid for (including in the unlikely event of FastSpring disappearing); and b) contacting you if there are any important notices relating to the service. We do not and cannot see or process your payment information at any point – that is handled exclusively by FastSpring. Neither we nor FastSpring will pass your basic customer data on to anyone else without your consent, other than to processors we may use to securely process the data on our behalf, and to any official authorities we may have a legal obligation to provide the data to.
Degree-day- or energy-related data you provide to our website or API is generally non-personal, though longitude/latitude or postal-code location data passed to our API (e.g. to fetch degree days for a real-world location) could in some cases count as personal data if it were analyzed in a way that tied it together with other personal data. We need to process this data to provide you with the Degree Days.net service, something in which we both have a legitimate interest. We log some details of data requests made to our system as we have a legitimate interest in ensuring that the system works as expected and to identify requests for which the system could be improved. We keep any logs of potentially-personal technical data secure, and we delete them after 28 days.
Cookies are pieces of data created when you visit a website, and stored locally on your computer/device. Each website can send its own cookies to your browser if your browser's preferences allow it, but (to protect your privacy) your browser only permits a website to access the cookies it has already sent to you, not the cookies sent to you by other websites.
We use cookies to assist in the gathering of non-personal data for website analytics, and to allow us to customize the content and functionality of our website for you (e.g. applying your chosen CSV-download-file settings automatically if you changed them from the defaults in the past, or letting you know about our desktop app if you download a lot of data). The cookies that we create do not contain any personal information about you. You may configure your browser to reject cookies (each browser is different, so check the "Help" menu of your browser to learn how to change your cookie preferences): this will not affect your access to the majority of features available at our website.
The personal data described above is securely processed on our behalf by the following processors, all of which are GDPR compliant:
We are committed to maintaining the security, integrity, and confidentiality of your personal data in compliance with the GDPR.
You are entitled to see the personal data we hold on you, and you may ask us to delete it, or make any necessary changes to ensure that it is accurate. If you wish to do this, please contact us. We will respond to you within 30 days with the data you requested and/or confirmation that the changes you requested have been made.
If you are unsatisfied with our response, or you believe we are not processing your personal data in accordance with the GDPR, you can lodge a complaint with the ICO or the equivalent supervisory authority in your country.
Comments, queries, and requests relating to our use of your personal data are welcome: please feel free to contact us.
